Abstract

Rapid urbanization and intensifying climate hazards are increasing the vulnerability of cities to heat waves, urban flooding, air pollution, water scarcity, infrastructure disruption, and energy stress. Smart-city technologies provide an opportunity to strengthen climate resilience by combining real-time sensing, data analytics, predictive decision-making, and sustainable infrastructure. This study examines the integrated contribution of Internet of Things (IoT) deployment, urban data analytics, and sustainable infrastructure to urban climate resilience. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was adopted using responses from 360 participants representing urban planners, municipal officials, infrastructure professionals, information-technology specialists, environmental professionals, and informed urban residents. Four constructs were measured using a five-point Likert scale: IoT Integration, Data Analytics Capability, Sustainable Infrastructure, and Climate Resilience. Reliability coefficients ranged from α = 0.84 to α = 0.91. The overall mean scores were 3.72 ± 0.67 for IoT integration, 3.68 ± 0.70 for data analytics, 3.81 ± 0.65 for sustainable infrastructure, and 3.76 ± 0.63 for climate resilience. Climate resilience demonstrated significant positive correlations with IoT integration (r = 0.61), data analytics capability (r = 0.66), and sustainable infrastructure (r = 0.72), with p < 0.001 in all cases. Multiple regression analysis indicated that the three predictors jointly explained 61.8% of the variance in climate resilience (R² = 0.618). Sustainable infrastructure emerged as the strongest predictor (β = 0.39), followed by data analytics (β = 0.28) and IoT integration (β = 0.22). The findings demonstrate that technological intelligence generates greater resilience benefits when integrated with physical infrastructure, environmental planning, institutional capacity, and data-driven governance.
