Abstract

Polychlorinated pollutants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs), are toxic compounds generated during the incomplete combustion of agricultural plastics. This study investigates the characterization and emission patterns of these pollutants through controlled combustion experiments. By analyzing the combustion residues and emissions, the study identifies the major chemical species, evaluates their toxic equivalency, and explores the influence of variables such as temperature, plastic type, and oxygen levels. The findings highlight the significant environmental and health risks posed by agricultural plastic combustion and emphasize the need for better waste management practices to mitigate pollutant release.
