Abstract

The integration of wastewater remediation and CO2 capture using algae cultures is a promising approach for sustainable environmental management. Algae can simultaneously treat wastewater by absorbing nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus while sequestering CO2 during photosynthesis. This study explores the dual benefits of this approach, focusing on optimizing algae growth conditions for maximal nutrient uptake and CO2 capture. Laboratory-scale experiments demonstrate significant reductions in pollutant levels and CO2 concentrations. The findings suggest that algaebased systems could serve as a cost-effective and ecofriendly solution for industrial and municipal applications, with potential for bioenergy and bioproduct generation.
